SILLY WILLY VICTIMIZING VICTIMS

Deriah's father once ran a pit bull breeding operation. Deriah's parents allowed a known child biter to stay in their home. Deriah was killed by that pit bull. Deriah's parents are now facing felony charges. Deriah's parents need a lawyer quick. And they expect other people to pay for it.
As our family and friends know, on August 9, 2014 Deriah Solem (daughter to Derek and Sharon) lost her life to an attack by the family dog. The dog had been...

  • Stephanie Michelle Garnet I understand they are going through a terrible loss. But this could've been prevented. I just can't see supporting that.

  • William Johnson The compassionate human being in me feels sorry for them. They've experienced an unfathomable tragedy.

The common sense "WTF were you thinking?" parent in me thinks that charges are appropriate.

I want to see them convicted. They endangered Deriah with their reckless behavior and the poor child paid the price for their reckless actions. I don't know if jail time is appropriate though, I'd hate to see this family further torn apart. I'm thinking of the other children.

My point in posting this is that now is the time to face responsibility. They created this tragedy, they should pay for their own lawyers or use a public defender if they qualify.

  • Stephanie Michelle Garnet Yes I agree with facing their responsibilities. They bred these dogs, they are the reason they had the aggressive dog in the house, they are not innocent here. It would be detrimental if both parents went to jail though.

  • William Johnson I don't know that they were still breeding, or if the mom ever was. That screenshot comes from a myspace page in 2007. If it's found that one parent was more responsible, maybe jail for that parent. Definitely in favor of heavy probation restrictions.

  • Gini Barrett There was a case in Kansas some years ago where 3 Rotts got out and killed a child waiting for a school bus - in front of the bus load of kids. Long story short - they sent the wife to prison for 3 years and let the father go free partly because she was more the dog person and partly because they thought someone had to take care of the kids.

  • Stephanie Michelle Garnet Oh Nicole Marie Judy style!!! Lol! I do agree reading this I did not feel enough remorse or that they are taking any responsibility over what happened and why they are in fact being charged rightly. If that's seriously the case then judge Judy is exactly what they need. Although most judges are pretty fair in their rulings they do normally give their opinion. And I hope he/she has a strong opinion in this case!

  • Stephanie Michelle Garnet And William Johnson even if not still breeding having previous breeding experiences with the breed and I'm sure dog fights with his dogs, he should have known better than anyone what this dog was capable of, if he was showing even the slightest hint of human aggression. The fact that knowing all this he still had this dog around his very young children is sick! It's just plain stupidity and irresponsible.

  • Stephanie Michelle Garnet Yeah if they knew he was dangerous he should have been chained up WITH a fence around him for safety measures if keeping an aggressive dog was that damn important to them!! Obviously more important than the wellfare of their children!

  • Cathy Garcia They are both responsible. Moms are supposed to walk through fire off their babies. Dad's are supposed to take a bullet for their family. They can get a public defender like everyone else. I'm sure pit bull nuts will help them. Sad but true. The other ...See More

  • Stephanie Michelle Garnet Don't get me wrong it's tragic!!! I feel horrible!! But it could have easily been prevented! They need to be held responsible and they need to take responsibility for what they ultimately caused!

  • Stephanie Michelle Garnet Oh I agree with you. I wouldn't keep the damn devil dog! But in the case of what you said, if he is still breeding and he kept him for monetary reasons at the very least he could have taken better precautions. In my opinion the dog should have been put down at the first bite at the very least!!

  • Stephanie Michelle Garnet Anything above the shoulders should be automatically euthanized in my opinion. It won't be the first! Why wait for it to happen a second! Many states have laws making it more difficult for owners to get their dogs back if they attack above the shoulders.

  • Cathy Garcia The dog should be put to sleep. Should've been after first bite. I would've killed it myself.

  • William Johnson And Stephanie Michelle Garnet, the pit bull was 10 years old. I'm sure it was used for breeding in the past. That screenshot shows he wasn't exactly breeding for temperment. There was a time( when only dogfighters bred pit bulls) that the breeders of t...See More

  • Stephanie Michelle Garnet Oh I know! I'm a reputable breeder of brittanys! This thought has already crossed my mind that there are possibly hundreds of offspring from this dangerous dog! Of course they didn't breed for temperament? What back yard breeder does? If he were a reputable breeder he would have known exactly what they were capable of and no dogs would be in the house with children!
  • William Johnson 3000 pit bulls are euthanized every single day in the US. Anyone who breeds pit bulls is by definition an irresponsible breeder.

  • Stephanie Michelle Garnet And how many reputable breeders are there nowadays for pitbulls? Not many I'm sure and the puppy mills and back breeders are pumping them out not caring what temperament even means! It's scary!! Not to mention how many mixes with this breed that are out there!!! It's terrifying!!

  • William Johnson Stephanie Michelle Garnet, you've only been a member of this group for a short time, so I don't know you well yet. You breed Brittanys. Let me ask you a question. If a law was passed in your state requiring that ALL DOGS were subject to mandatory spa...See More

  • Stephanie Michelle Garnet No!! I live in the middle of nowhere so I'm not required to have a license in my state but that doesn't mean I would be against it! I would gladly comply! I've looked into getting one and would have one if it would benefit me in any way but being out 4 hours from a major city there is no reason for me to have one. Thank you I adore them too!

  • Stephanie Michelle Garnet Just to clarify that was a no!!! I would not be opposed! I feel that would be a great solution to irresponsible back yard breeding so if I was voting I would be for that bill! There are way too many irresponsible breeders in this world and we need to get a handle on it!

  • William Johnson That's what I thought you would say. With 3000 pit bulls euthanized every day, I'll never understand why pit bull "advocates" are opposed to MSN laws. I'm not for creating undue burden on the breeders of other dogs, pit bull breeders are just out of control and no one seems willing to stop it.
